About Me

Impressions: I have two main impressions. The first is that of a farmer's wife who lives with her husband and 4 children in the rolling countryside of south central Pennsylvania. My second impression is that of the wife of an importer and purveyor of laces who resides in Philadelphia but takes her summers in the country.

Interests and talents: All manner of domestic affairs

Demonstrations: Bobbin lace (a craft not common in America in the 1860's), Plain and fancy sewing, tatting, crochet and gardening

I have been a fan of living history and all things old for my entire life. As a child, I dreamed of living in a museum. As I grew up I developed a passion for collecting "old stuff", filling my home with treasures from the past. Visiting museums, galleries, antique shops and living history sites are among the things that my children have grown up doing. Up until a few years ago (2010), collecting and visiting was good enough..... until I was invited to a Civil War wedding. At that point, I had an excuse to cross over into the world of costuming and I haven't looked back since.

I am an extreme stickler for detail and spend many hours in research before any project is started. Having said that, I do have to admit that I fall into the category of "progressive" or "hardcore" but have no expectations for the standards that others have for themselves. There is room in this hobby for all levels of authenticity.
